Music. Sorta impossible to describe. In fact we use music to describe things sometimes. "That is music to my ears," or "The wind sounds like music," etc. We all know what it is, so why bother trying to define it? If you really must have a definition, here's one straight from dictionary.com: "An art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms throught the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color."
The definition already said what I was going to say about expressing emotions. Isn't it amazing that a few notes can sound joyful or dismal? If you just think about how wonderfully awesome it is that sounds can convey emotion it can make you apprecite the complexity of nature. Makes you think, "Wow! Where did music come from? Did it really just become?"
My answer to that would be no, music did not just randomly become. A scientist would tell you yes, everything that exists just "became." That's a little hard to believe when you put it that way!
Now wait, why did I say no? Because I believe that Someone created that wonderful feeling we get from music. (I have Pandora on right now. The station I'm listening to consists of film scores. A minute ago I was listening to a song from The Lord of the Rings, and now I'm listening to Star Wars music, so please forgive me if I seem jumpy in my writing. ;-)
Ok! Back to why did I say no? Let's look at another example of why I do not believe things just became. When you look at a city, you DO NOT think that it just became! That would be absurd!!!!! You know that builders had to use some logic and determine everything from the pipe system to the construction of the buildings. If you've ever played Sim City, you know how hard that can be. So can you ever look at something as complex as the green house gases that allow us to live, or the way our water system works and think IT JUST BECAME? I would cry laughing if you thought that about a computer, camera, or anything else that is obviously human made just became
. So why is it so hard to think that about the earth?
Scienctists even tryed constructing a self sustaining biodome in Arizona in recent years. They put a lot of thought into it before they set the project in motion. (Oh, and a lot of government money!) Well, sure enough, things starting going wrong after awhile. They had to start pumping in oxygen and helping sick animals. Eventually they gave up and turned it into a museum. (Ha!)
What's that got to do with anything?!? Hold your horses; it's very relevant. You see, the best scienctists this world has got to offer (and endless supply of $$) could not "create" a self sustaining world! So many things have to be calculated. Microorganisms, food webs, gases, etc. So if humans CANNOT make a self sustaining world, WHAT CAN?!?!?!?!?
How about Someone who was smart enough to create man, music, and microrganisms? His name? I'm sure you know who I'm talking about by now. God. Yup, the most controversial Being ever.
Next time you watch a movie, listen closely to the background music. Try watching it with subtitles muted. I'll bet you $1,000,000 that you WILL NOT get the same emotion or urgent feeling as before. If music can do that much, it had to have come from a genius. <3
I'm glad you are writing this blog. Followers will come eventually and read it. Some read and don't sign up to follow, too. You have a very unique way of presenting what you are trying to convey to people. Great job, my little homeschoobler. <3
ReplyDeleteWhat does homeschoobler mean Mrs. Costen?

Homeschoobler is a joke in our family. I made a shirt that says I'm a crazy homeschooler, and my dad said it looked like homeschoobler. lol
